Netherworld Haunted House's proposed relocation from Norcross to Stone Mountain cleared its final governmental hurdle this week — now the owners of the world-famous scare factory just have to purchase the new property.

The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners approved Tuesday the rezoning proposals necessary for Netherworld to make its new home on 9.5 acres along West Park Place Boulevard, just south of U.S. 78 near Stone Mountain Park. The haunted house plans to renovate two existing warehouses on the property.

Netherworld officials have said little regarding the move from its two-decade home on Norcross’ Dawson Boulevard. Co-owner Ben Armstrong continued that trend this week, confirming his group does not yet own the property in Stone Mountain but otherwise declining to comment on a possible timeline for the transition.

“We’ve got a lot to do,” he said.

Gwinnett property records suggest the property in question is actually four separate parcels owned by at least two different entities. A potential purchase price is unclear, but Gwinnett property records suggest the “total fair market” value could approach $2 million.

Shane Lanham, an attorney representing Netherworld during the rezoning process, said during Tuesday’s Board of Commissioners meeting that the new property will give the haunted house room to expand its offerings.

Documents submitted to the county suggest that "film industry uses and private events such as escape games, weddings and corporate events," could be included, as well as “seasonal-related events such as a pumpkin patch.”
