NAACP joins with African American churches for voter registration

One of the nation’s most prominent civil rights organizations Wednesday joined with African-American Baptist groups to promote voter registration through the “This Is My Vote” campaign.

The partnership was announced during the National Baptist Convention, USA meeting, which is being held at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.

Of particular concern are voter access laws that civil rights leaders say disproportionately affect African-Americans and the poor. The NAACP will provide churches with voter registration training and congregations will be informed about legislative issues and changes in local voter registration laws.
