MUST Ministries, the nonprofit organization serving residents in Cobb and Cherokee counties, needs food donations.

MUST gives out 2,000 pounds of food or 2,500 canned items each day to needy families who can receive a three-day supply of food and clothes four times a year.

Donations typically drop off during the summer months, but the organization has seen a 35 percent increase over this time last year in the number of people needing assistance. The increase is attributed in to a combination of more people who have run out of resources, kids home from school and the beginning of a new quarter of donation eligibility for families, said Annette Lee, donation center director.

The most needed items include canned meats, fruit, dry milk and cereal. Grocery gift cards are also accepted at the donation center: 1210B Kennestone Circle in Marietta.
