The Cobb County man accused of killing a man at a strip mall called police to report what he had done.

After arguing with the owner of a Cobb County computer store, Jerry Wayne Lovings, 55, returned to the store 30 minutes later and fired at least three shots, according to an arrest warrant obtained by the AJC.

Lovings shot Jonathan Samuel Brooks inside the Ragan Plaza store last Wednesday and then chased him into another store, the warrant states. After being shot, Brooks ran to another store for help with Lovings chasing him. Lovings then allegedly fired five more shots, striking Brooks multiple times, police said.

Brooks was transported to WellStar Cobb Hospital, where he later died, police said.

After shooting Brooks, Lovings called 911 and said he had shot a man and was waiting for police to come and take him to jail.

Lovings was taken into custody and later charged with murder and aggravated assault. He was booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, where he remained Sunday night without bond.
