Motorist charged with fatally hitting woman
A Lawrenceville man is in jail charged with striking a young mother with his truck and killing her.
Constantin Toncz, 39, is being held on charges of first-degree vehicular homicide, DUI and leaving the scene of an accident involving a death.
Toncz was driving down Belmont Lane around 9 p.m. Sunday when he struck Sabrina Stanek in front of her Lawrenceville home, Lawrenceville Police Capt. Jeff Smith said.
Stanek, 25, died at the scene, police said.
Toncz drove off, turned around and abandoned his Ford F-350. He then ran to a nearby house belonging to a friend. Neighbors alerted police, who arrested Toncz several minutes later, Smith said.
Police are still investigating the details of the crash, but said Toncz's truck left the roadway, struck Stanek and hit a parked vehicle.
"We've received some different stories about what happened and are still investigating," Smith said.
The crash occurred at 90-degree turn on Belmont. Initial reports indicate Toncz turned too wide and went up on the right side of the road, Smith said.
Investigators do not believe the victim and driver were acquainted.
