A motorcyclist was killed overnight after leading Cobb County police on a high-speed chase down I-75.

Cobb police Sgt. Dana Pierce said that an officer spotted the motorcyclist, whom he suspected of driving impaired, on the interstate near Barrett Parkway, and when the officer tried to stop the  man, he fled southbound on I-75 at speeds in excess of 120 mph.

Pierce said that as Cobb dispatchers were notifying Marietta police and the Georgia State Patrol of the situation, the motorcyclist "attempted to pull off onto the southbound Windy Hill Road exit ramp."

Officers found a wrecked copper 1991 Suzuki at the top of the exit ramp and as they were setting up a perimeter to locate the suspect, "they found him on the exit ramp, deceased from apparent injuries he suffered in the crash," Pierce said.

The motorcyclist was identified as Ramon Mares, 30, of Chatsworth.
