A motorcyclist killed early Saturday was among the three fatalities reported across Georgia during the early part of the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
Robert Clark, 56, of Mableton died in the crash, which happened around 1:30 a.m. Saturday on Dodgen Road near Allen Road in south Cobb County, according to Cobb police Sgt. Dana Pierce.
Pierce said Clark lost control of the bike in a curve, and died shortly after arriving at WellStar Cobb Hospital.
"Investigators believe that alcohol was a contributing factor in this fatality crash in addition to the rider not wearing any type of protective headgear," Pierce said.
The other two fatalities that had been reported by noon Saturday occurred in Lafayette in the northwest corner of the state and in Putnam County southeast of metro Atlanta, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
The holiday traffic counting period began at 6 p.m. on Friday and continues through midnight on Monday.
