A motorcyclist attempting to elude authorities died in a wreck Friday night, the Georgia State Patrol said.

George Andrew Tillage, 44, of McDonough was pronounced dead at the scene after crashing a 2003 Kawasaki motorcycle, authorities said.

A state trooper tried to stop Tillage for a tag violation on southbound I-285 near Camp Creek Parkway just before 7 p.m., Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright said.

According to the GSP, when the officer activated the patrol car's emergency equipment, Tillage accelerated and fled, weaving through traffic and speeding past Washington Road. He lost control on the ramp to Old National Highway and hit a guardrail.

The trooper called for emergency medical personnel, Wright said.
