A 27-year-old mother is dead and her 8-year-old son is in critical condition after a crash in Hall County on Wednesday morning, officials said.

Shelby Paige Stanfill of Lula was killed about 9:30 a.m. when she lost control of her Kia Optima on Ga. 11, south of Ga. 254, near Hub Head Road, Georgia State Patrol Cpl. Spencer Munger said.

After losing control of her vehicle, Stanfill crossed the double yellow line and collided with a Honda Odyssey driven by 49-year-old Mai Moreno of Gainesville, Munger said.

The 8-year-old boy, whose name was not released, was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite.

Moreno, who was listed with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Munger said.
