Fans headed to Music Midtown, high school and college football games and other outdoor events this weekend should find mostly dry weather, with only a slight chance of rain late in the day on Saturday.
Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton put the chance of rain at 20 percent Saturday evening as a cold front ushers in cooler weather for Sunday.
Minton said skies should be partly to mostly sunny on Friday, most of Saturday and all of Sunday. Highs Saturday afternoon should be in the mid-80s after morning lows in the mid-60s.
With the passing of the cold front, temperatures should be in the mid-50s early Sunday, followed by afternoon highs in the mid-70s.
That mostly dry forecast will be good news for those headed to Piedmont Park for Friday night and Saturday’s Music Midtown, as well as for football fans headed to high school games on Friday night and to college games on Saturday.
Saturday’s college football lineup includes the Georgia Tech-Miami game at 3 p.m. Saturday at Bobby Dodd Stadium, the Georgia-Vanderbilt matchup at 7:45 p.m. in Athens and the 3:30 p.m. Georgia State-Richmond game at the Georgia Dome.
On the Atlanta University Center campus, Clark-Atlanta plays Concordia at 6 p.m. Saturday, while Morehouse takes on Lane at 7:30 p.m.
Other events this weekend include the Tour Championship golf tournament, which continues through Sunday at East Lake Golf Club, and the North Georgia State Fair at Jim Miller Park in Cobb County.
Dry weather also means interstate repaving, with a several projects expected to cause delays this weekend.
On the top-end Perimeter, crews plan to shut down three lanes of I-285 in each direction between Paces Ferry Road and Ashford Dunwoody Road, beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday and continuing, weather permitting, through 5 a.m. Monday.
South of downtown, one lane of I-75/85 will be blocked in each direction south of I-20 from 7 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.
In Cherokee County, the right lane of I-575 in each direction will be closed from 7 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.
