A mother is saddened and searching for answers after her 5-month-old daughter was killed by her babysitter’s dog.

Adding to the mystery, the dog had been around the baby, Paige Bradley, since she was born, Channel 2 Action News reported.

“I can’t even say (what happened),” Terika George, the mother, said. “ I just gave it to God ... I told him to figure this all out for me.”

Police said the babysitter, a longtime family friend and the mother’s roommate, was taking care of the baby Tuesday night at a Forest Park home.

He said he put the infant to sleep on a bed, then fell asleep in a different room. The mother told police that when she returned home, she saw her roommate was asleep, and she went to check on the baby.

About 3 a.m. Wednesday, someone called police and said that a German Shepherd had killed the baby. Police said the caller was “frantic” and was unable to communicate what the emergency was.

Animal control officials euthanized the dog.

At the end of the investigation, police did not find any evidence of neglectful or unlawful acts by anyone in the home. No charges have been filed.

“I never heard of anything like this,” George said.
