A recently discharged Army soldier from Sandy Springs was found dead inside his wrecked car Thursday, two days after he was last seen leaving a Buckhead bar.

Randal Andrew Ackerman, 31, was honorably discharged after a tour of Afghanistan. He was last seen leaving Hangovers bar around 2 a.m. Tuesday.

Longtime friend Carli Prillaman said Ackerman was always a very thoughtful person.

“He’s the type of person that literally always did everything he possibly could to help others,” Prillaman told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

About 6 p.m. Thursday, Georgia State Patrol troopers were called to investigate a wreck off Johnson Ferry Road.

“Upon arrival, troopers found a vehicle that had left the roadway, traveled down an embankment and overturned,” GSP spokesman Gordy Wright said in a statement. Ackerman was deceased inside the car.

Wright said the exact day and time of the crash has not been determined.

Friends and family have a website to help with Ackerman's funeral arrangements.

A time and location for the funeral is not yet available.
