The Milton City Council has approved an automatic aid and mutual aid agreement with Roswell, with the two cities’ fire departments available to come to each others’ assistance.

Milton Fire Chief Robert Edgar told the council that the agreement benefits both communities, as much of Milton abuts Roswell.

Automatic aid is dispatched automatically, with the closest available unit responding regardless of where a call originates, while mutual aid is dispatched upon request by one department to the other. Automatic aid would be limited to certain first-response areas, while mutual aid would be based on operational need and available resources.

Milton currently has an automatic aid agreement with Alpharetta for fire and emergency services, Edgar said. “Additional benefits to this agreement would be the possibility of additional credit from the Insurance Services Office (ISO),” the chief said.

The agreement, which also addresses communications and joint training, runs through June 30, 2020, and automatically renews each year thereafter.
