The Milton City Council has authorized the creation of an Equestrian Committee to represent the many members of the city’s horse-riding community.
The committee will have a seven-member governing board “to advocate for, promote and participate in the selection and interpretation of equestrian work and equestrian events, to encourage local exploration, generate civic pride (and) increase tourism,” according to a resolution approved at a recent Council meeting.
The panel also is charged with showcasing local equestrian land, businesses and initiatives.
Members will be nominated and approved by the mayor and Council members. A nominee must be a Milton resident at least 21 years old, and the owner of one or more horses or land with horses for at least six consecutive months prior to the appointment. All members will be unpaid volunteers.
