The Milton City Council has approved spending $4,275 to install a special audio system in the new Public Safety Complex to serve hard-of-hearing residents attending Municipal Court.

BIS Digital, a contractor that records all court sessions, will install a listening assist system that complies with 2010 revised regulations of the federal Americans With Disabilities Act, according to an agenda memo to the council by Court Clerk Brooke Lappin.

“This system will provide the court with the ability to dispense headphones to the public that will relay any audio from the AV system in the courtroom,” Lappin said. “The system will also allow individuals to utilize their personal iPhone and/or Android device to amplify that audio.”

Additionally, BIS will upgrade current software to capture audio from ZOOM meeting recordings so that virtual court sessions can be held, Lappin said.
