The Milton City Council has advanced a measure limiting the hours a builder or contractor can undertake noisy construction activity.

The council recently approved on first reading code amendments to restrict such noise-generating activities as building construction, earth-moving or pavement-laying, or the loading and unloading of supplies, to the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

If a contractor needs to do work outside the allowed days and times, a permit can be requested from Milton’s community development director. The restrictions do not apply to someone working on his or her own home, though that person will still be subject to the city’s noise control ordinance.
