Milton has again extended its moratorium on accepting applications for community sewage systems, as an expert hired by the city works on new guidelines for the facilities.

Milton codes allow, in certain cases, “community sewerage disposal systems” – decentralized, subdivision-sized wastewater treatment facilities, as opposed to municipal treatment plants – as a holdover from pre-incorporation days when Fulton County codes applied in the area, according to a resolution approved by the City Council on Feb. 6. The latest moratorium expires May 2.

In January, the Council approved contracts with Robert Rubin and the University of Georgia Research Foundation to provide technical assistance and recommendations on the subject.

The moratorium was first put in place last April and has been renewed several time since.
