The Milton City Council voted 5-2 Monday night to extend a previous 90-day moratorium on granting land disturbance permits required for residential development for another 60 days. The moratorium covers parcels of 10 acres or more, and spans several different zoning categories.

The council enacted the moratorium m in April to put larger-scale development on hold while studying potential revisions to subdivision regulations. The city has been weighing a possible conservation subdivision ordinance, requiring developers to set aside a certain percentage of land to protect wildlife and water quality.

Opposition to the extension centered around fears that the city was hampering landowners who wanted to sell their property for possible development.
