The Milton City Council has enacted a 90-day moratorium on land disturbance permits required for developers, as officials work to revise subdivision regulations. The moratorium goes into effect Monday. An emergency halt to the permit process had previously been in effect for 30 days.

Monday night’s vote governs permits to disturb more than 5,000 square feet of land, and covers a host of zoning categories. Council member reserved the right to remove restrictions at any future open meeting.

The moratorium is set up to give city officials time to weigh a potential conservation subdivision ordinance, requiring developers set aside a certain amount of land to protect wildlife and water quality. The city planning commission will consider the proposal in April and May, while the council is scheduled to take it up in June.
