Milton has announced a household paint and hazardous chemicals collection event for later this month, and residents must register in advance to participate.

The collection, for Milton households only, is set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Milton High School, 13025 Birmingham Highway. To register: https://bit.ly/2lSpjbW

Acceptable items include up to 10 gallons of latex paint and oil-based paint, stain and varnish in their original containers; aerosol paint/spray cans; flammable liquids such as gasoline and kerosene; automotive liquids such as transmission and brake fluid (but no motor oil); garden, pool and household cleaning chemicals in their original containers; fluorescent bulbs and tubes; items containing mercury; and household batteries.

Items not accepted include tires, automotive batteries, motor oil, electronics, explosives, ammunition or firearms, and prescription drugs.
