An organization formed to help provide emergency relief assistance to the soldiers and airmen of the the Georgia National Guard is getting a financial boost.
The Pantry, an independently-operated convenience store chain, recently donated $32,000 to the Georgia National Guard Family Support Foundation.
This summer, customers of Kangaroo Express convenience stores were asked to donate $1 to the "Salute Our Troops" fundraising campaign. The campaign raised $2.5 million. The remainder of the funds will benefit other military support organizations. SHELIA POOLE

Georgia-born poet D.A. Powell is placing his papers with Emory University's Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library, officials announced Thursday.
Powell has won multiple awards for his work, which references nuanced topics such as religion and AIDS. He is scheduled to give a reading and sign books Wednesday at the Woodruff Library on campus.
The rare book library library already houses papers from other Georgia writers, including James Dickey, David Bottoms and Frank Manley. LAURA DIAMOND
