A Douglasville police officer faces DUI and public indecency charges stemming from his arrest last month, officials said Wednesday.

Officer James Jerry Phipps was arrested by the Georgia State Patrol on July 29 in Fannin County, police Chief Gary Sparks said.

Phipps, who was off duty at the time of his arrest, was immediately placed on administrative leave pending the completion of an internal affairs investigation.

“The Douglasville Police Department will conduct a fair and transparent investigation into this matter,” Sparks said. “We expect our officer’s conduct to reflect our core values both on-duty and off.”

The investigation is ongoing.
