Trustees at Mercer University voted Friday to establish a health sciences center that will open July 1 with more than 1,700 students.

The multi-campus center includes the School of Medicine, College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and Georgia Baptist College of Nursing, according to a news release. The College of Health Professions, which will include physician assistant and physical therapy programs, is scheduled to open July 2013.

Trustees also increased undergraduate tuition by 2.9 percent to $32,166 a year.
