A high-profile downtown Alpharetta thoroughfare will temporarily close next week as officials prepare for a civic dedication.

City officials will shut down the southbound lanes of Haynes Bridge Road between Academy Street and Park Plaza from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday. A crane will block the road while it lifts the new Alpharetta Veterans Memorial into Brooke Street Park, which is adjacent to both the roadway and to city hall.

The memorial will be dedicated during a 10 a.m. ceremony Wednesday, Veterans Day. The centerpiece will be a 7-foot bronze statue showing two soldiers in full combat gear.

A local volunteer group raised more than $100,000 for the statue, while the city donated the land and a stone pedestal.
