Forsyth County's forthcoming mixed-use community Halcyon near Alpharetta has broken ground on an extension to the Big Creek Greenway. The trail has portions in Roswell, Alpharetta and Forsyth.

Expected to be completed next year, the extension will lengthen the 12-foot-wide multi-use trail by nearly one mile in Forsyth, according to a recent news release. It will include a new paved and lit parking lot, restrooms and a trailhead.

The addition will offer another way for people to get to Halcyon and its planned attractions, including more than 480,000 square feet of office and retail space, the only dine-in movie theater in Forsyth County, two hotels and 690 residential units from developers RocaPoint Partners and New York-based The Georgetown Company.

Patrick Leonard, principal of RocaPoint Partners, said the extension "will weave seamlessly into the walkable community.”

“With the development of the Atlanta BeltLine and all of the wonderful economic, community and environmental progress that has resulted, we strongly believe we will see a similar pattern of success here in Forsyth County,” Leonard said.

Halcyon will be located on about 135 acres at Ga. 400 and McFarland Parkway.
