MARTA receives safety award

The American Public Transportation Association recently honored MARTA with its highest award for safety in the heavy rail division.

MARTA received the gold award, which recognized the transit authority for its excellence in safety and security programs and operations, at the association’s rail conference in Baltimore. MARTA’s accomplishments include improved employee and contractor safety on the right-of-way, which it said has not seen any employee or contractor fatalities since 2001. MARTA also produced an enhanced version of its Wayside Access Procedure manual/Standard Operation Procedures.
