U.S. Marshals arrested a 22-year-old in Atlanta on charges he shot a man at a Griffin convenience store.

The victim, Edward Burr, remains at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta in critical condition, police said.

Gerard Walker, 22, of Griffin, was arrested Thursday in Atlanta, Griffin Police spokesman Investigator Bryan Clanton said. Walker is being held in the Spalding County jail on charges of aggravated assault.

Police said Walker opened fired at the Triple 8 Grocery in Griffin on July 1 and then fled.

Officers found Burr lying on the floor inside the store, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, Clanton said. Burr was flown by helicopter to Grady.

Investigators said Burr knew Walker prior to the assault.

The shooting remains under investigation, but detectives have ruled out robbery as a motive, Clanton said.
