Dan Flynn has been named the state’s top cop for the second time in his decade as head of the Marietta Police Department.

The Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police announced that Flynn was the chief of the year Tuesday at the group’s conference in Savannah.

Marietta police said this is the second time a chief has won the award twice.

According to the Association, anyone can nominate a chief by filling out an application with a cover letter and a narrative with documentation showing the chief's contributions to the group, their community and their accomplishments as a law enforcement administrator.

“He is respected by his personnel, his peers and the community because of his dedication to his profession and his desire to exceed expectations,” according to a Marietta police news release.

The agency posted some photos from the event on its Facebook page.

He started in law enforcement in 1973 with the Miami-Dade Police Department and served as a police chief for multiple agencies in the Savannah area before taking over Marietta in 2007.

He first won the award in 2011.
