A question on the Nov. 8 ballot pertains only to Marietta about term limits for city elected officials.

The question asks whether both the mayor and city council members should be limited to serving three consecutive terms of four years each. However, the nonbinding outcome means, no matter the vote of Marietta residents, city officials do not have to take any action.

If they do decide to take action, the matter would have to be referred to the Cobb County delegation of lawmakers to present to the Georgia General Assembly for the Marietta Charter amendment. If approved by both the Georgia General Assembly and the Marietta City Council, this change would affect city elections in November 2017 for terms of office beginning January 2018.
