The Marietta Board of Education has approved the $520,180 purchase of 1,180 DELL Chromebooks, 40 mobile carts from DELL Marketing LP, 40 DELL workstations and 40 DELL monitors - all for student use.
The Chromebooks will replace DELL E-series laptops that are at the end of service, being five years old and older.
Additional Chromebooks will be used for the Marietta Performance Learning Center and Marietta High School’s Career, Technical and Agricultural Education program.
The workstations (computers) and monitors are for use at Marietta High School in one CTAE computer lab.
Current workstations are under powered and under minimum specifications to run current releases of engineering software that are used in the Pre-Architecture and Pre-Engineering CTAE programs.
Students use the workstations to learn and use Computer Aided Drawing, Engineering and 3D Modeling applications such as Solidworks, Chief Architect and Autodesk (Rivit, Inventor and Maya).
Costs will be $390,580 for the Chromebooks; $74,000 for the mobile carts; $49,200 for the workstations and $6,400 for the monitors.
Funding will come from the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax IV.
