The Marietta Police Department will host a free community gathering titled “Roadmap to Recovery – Navigating Behavioral Health Resources” from 6-9 p.m. on Sept. 10 in the seminar room at Marietta High School, 1171 Whitlock Ave. NW, Marietta.

More than a dozen organizations in Cobb County specialize in topics including - but not limited to - addiction, recovery, intervention and mental health.

Several of these services are free or have sliding payment scales based on individual insurance or ability to pay, according to a statement by Marietta Police Public Information Officer Chuck McPhilamy.

“Some organizations are geared toward the individual in crisis; others include support groups for families of someone in crisis,” McPhilamy said. “We encourage everyone to attend and help spread the word about these amazing organizations right here in our own community.”

Representatives from more than 15 Cobb County organizations will be present to speak one-on-one with participants to explain their services and answer questions.

Among the presenters will be the Opioid A.S.S.I.S.T. Team, Cobb County Community Services Board, Cobb County District Attorney’s Office, Cobb County Police Department, Davis Direction Foundation, Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, Marietta City Schools, NAMI Cobb, Ser Familia Inc. and The Extension.

Also, the Cobb Overdose Prevention Effort (C.O.P.E.) House (custom trailer) will be onsite for tours.

Each tour will be hosted by someone in recovery who will teach adult participants (ages 21+) the warning signs that someone they know may be struggling with addiction.

In partnership with the Cobb County District Attorney, the Cobb County Solicitor, the Cobb County Sheriff and the Davis Direction Foundation, Cobb County created this educational tool, the COPE House (Cobb Overdose Prevention Effort), to help combat the overdose epidemic.

This mobile classroom was designed to help educate parents about warning signs of drug addiction and how to keep teens away from illegal drugs.

The house is designed to mirror a teenager’s bedroom, bathroom and closet with more than 50 items on display.

To schedule the COPE trailer at an event, submit a request using the COPE House Request Form at CobbCounty.seamlessdocs.com/f/COPE.
