Marietta will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony on Aug. 24 for the city’s Franklin Gateway Sports Complex, 1034 Franklin Gateway.

At 5:30 p.m. city staff will provide public tours of the 13-acre facility followed by the ceremony at 6 p.m.

Amenities include three full-size soccer fields that are tournament style with artificial turf, green space, a building with concessions and restrooms, a maintenance building, a playground and a walking track.

The land was bought for around $3.9 million and the Preston Chase apartments were torn down by the city to make way for the sports complex.

About $7 million was spent to build the complex that is next door to the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground for Atlanta United by its owner Arthur Blank.

For $60 million on 33 acres, the training complex by the pro soccer franchise opened in April with six full-size fields and a 30,000-square-foot building.

Atlanta United has plans to host tournaments and events at the city facility and, at its complex, open training sessions and tournaments as well as national and international clubs.
