Upgrades to Marietta’s North Park Square will begin in January and be completed in time for the Taste of Marietta in April.

Sidewalks will be widened to 7 1/2 feet with new bricks.

The Strand Theater bricks will remain the same.

All of the trees will be removed during the second week of January.

They will be replaced with trees that are 20 to 24 feet tall and planted deeper with rubberized covers to keep them from bulging as they do now and to avoid buckling of the brick, City Manager Bill Bruton said during the Thursday agenda meeting of the Marietta City Council.

Curbing will be granite instead of the concrete.

Root Street will have a new crosswalk similar to those of the four intersections around the square.

Also, the light poles will be brought closer to the curb.

Traffic flow will involve one turn lane and one through lane in each direction.
