Marietta police say they’ve caught the person responsible for more than a dozen instances of graffiti along Roswell Road area over the past month.

William Carswell, 18, of Marietta, has been arrested on 14 felony counts of criminal interference with government property, one felony charge of criminal property damage and a misdemeanor trespassing count.

Police said Wednesday that they received a report Sept. 19 of “WUSHU” being carved into a window at Beats Barber Shop, 1476 Roswell Road.

Cops asked around the area and found that the word had been spray painted onto an ice machine outside a nearby Dollar General.

According to a warrant, Carswell tagged a dozen other places, including under bridges and on several electrical boxes, with variations of “WUSHU.”

Carswell was booked into Cobb County jail on Oct. 5 and bonded out three days later for $16,720.

He was arrested in May on similar charges for tagging multiple bridges, warrants show.

Marietta police put out the word out on Facebook in August that it was looking for someone spray painting graffiti in the Roswell Road area.

Marietta police spokesman Charles McPhilamy said Wednesday the post got the public talking about graffiti in the area, and that conversation eventually led to a witness of Carswell’s alleged crimes.

But McPhilamy wouldn’t say if Carswell had done the graffiti shown in the August post or if it was someone else.

“If we can prove he also did that damage he will be charged accordingly,” McPhilamy said.
