The Marietta High School football team will play at the Georgia State Stadium Saturday for the state championship.

The Blue Devils will face the Lowndes County Vikings in the class 7-A title game. Kickoff will be at 8 p.m.

The last time the Blue Devils played in the championship was 52 years ago in 1967, according to Marietta City Schools spokeswoman Jen Brock. They won that game with their first integrated team. Alumni from the 1967 class will take a fan bus to the game and hope to see their team as champions again.

Team spirit festivities will be held throughout the week in preparation for the game, Brock said. These will include a visit from players, cheerleaders, athletic trainers and the school band at preschools and elementary schools Wednesday.

Fan can also participate in a send-off to the team from 4-4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Marietta High School parking lot along Whitlock Avenue.

Game tickets can be bought at marietta-city.org/Page/3513.
