A clerk was shot  late Wednesday night during an attempted robbery at a Marietta grocery store.

Marietta police said officers responded to a "person shot" call at 11 p.m. at Gantt’s Food Store on Franklin Road and found a store employee with a gunshot wound to his right arm. The employee was transported to Kennestone Hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury, police said.

Police said they recovered video from the store's security camera, which showed a man entering the store wearing a dark-colored hooded jacket and dark pants, red gloves and a red-and-blue scarf over his face.

The man brandished a semiautomatic pistol, and as the clerk fled fired one shot, striking the clerk in the arm, police said. The robber then tried to open both cash registers behind the sales counter. After failing to open the registers, the man fled the store.

Marietta police are asking anyone with information about the incident or the suspect to contact Detective Shane Merritt at 770-794-5324.
