The Marietta Board of Education has named Dr. Jennifer Hernandez as the new director of Digital Learning for Marietta City Schools.

She will assume the post on July 1, according to a school district statement from Sommer Vega, director of Communications, Marketing and Public Relations.

Hernandez is the principal at Marietta Center for Advanced Academics.

The director of Digital Learning is a new position that will provide coordination among the Office of Technology and Information Systems, the Office of Curriculum and Instruction and school administrators.

In this role, Hernandez will lead digital transformation efforts.

She will oversee the selection and continuing evaluation of digital learning software, including the implementation of a learning management system and evaluation of technology pilot initiatives.

Hernandez has been a teacher for eight years and a science specialist for one year and has had 10 years of elementary grades administrative experience, including one as the MCAA principal since 2011.

She earned a Doctorate degree in Educational Leadership and Management from Capella University in Minneapolis, Minnesota; an Education Specialist in Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University; a Masters of Science degree in Elementary Education and Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.
