An application to open Auto Village was unanimously turned down by the Marietta City Council.
Auto Village would be a shopping center of auto-related businesses but also would include a restaurant such as Subway, according to city officials.
At the March 9 meeting, Councilman Grif Chalfant, who made the motion for denial, said the residents in the area did not want this 16,000-square-foot development at 1101 Powder Springs St. based upon a recent community meeting.
Auto Village officials had contacted the city by email and phone a few hours before the council meeting to say they would be out of town and wanted the matter to be tabled for a month while they work with the community to deal with their concerns.
However, Auto Village can reapply as soon as two months from now if it meets all of the legal requirements.
