A 72-unit townhome community was approved recently by the Marietta City Council.

Tyler Chandler Homes will be the contractor for the gated 8.9-acre development at 1400 Powder Springs Road at County Services Parkway.

Only five percent of the units will be for rent, said attorney Kevin Moore, speaking for the applicant.

Moore said this project will serve as a transition between homes and the commercial businesses that are across the street from Waffle House.

The community also will include a one-acre park near the back to serve as a buffer to adjacent single-family homes and a three-quarter-acre linear park through the middle.

No residents expressed opposition, and one resident spoke in favor of the project.
