A new telecommunications tower should cover current gaps in indoor coverage areas in Marietta, bordering Kennesaw State University.

The 120-foot monopole tower will be in the parking lot of the International Association of Machinists, Lodge 709 at 1032 South Marietta Parkway on property zoned Light Industrial.

This Special Land Use Permit was approved 7-0 on Sept. 11 by the Marietta City Council.

The tower will be built for four carriers, including T-Mobile at the highest location.

Presently, the closest T-Mobile site is more than a half mile away.

Variances include waiving the 50-foot landscape buffer and fence along the property line next to property that is zoned residential at 960 Hudson Road - the site of the Baptist Student Center - and waiving the required landscaping outside the perimeter fencing.
