A 36-year-old motorist was in Fulton County Jail on Friday, facing multiple charges, after his arrest the night before for allegedly striking a patrol car and then crashing while trying to flee from police in the Buckhead area of Atlanta.
Antonio Pittman is charged with leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, fleeing and attempting to elude an officer, obstruction, terroristic threats and interference with government property, Atlanta police spokesman Officer John Chafee said.
Pittman's alleged run-in with police began about 8 p.m. Thursday, when officers were dispatched to a call of a disturbance in the 3200 block of Mathieson Drive just north of Peachtree Road. When they arrived, the suspect had left.
As police were about the leave, the man returned, pulling to the rear of a parking lot and stepping out of the vehicle, police said. An officer drove over to the man to talk to him.
The suspect jumped back into his vehicle and took off, striking a parked, unoccupied police car as he fled from the lot, police said. But the man didn’t get far; he crashed at Roswell Road and Alberta Drive, and officers apprehended him.
