A man was badly hurt Thursday night when he was struck by a taxicab in a popular Atlanta entertainment district filled with St. Patrick's Day partiers.

The incident happened about 10:30 p.m., during the height of partying in the busy bar district along North Highland Avenue at Briarcliff Place.

The name of the man hit has not been released, but Atlanta police Capt. Van Hobbs told the AJC that he was hospitalized in critical condition with head injuries.

“It appeared that he was intoxicated, but we don’t know if he came out of a bar in that area, or where he came from,” Hobbs said.

The cab driver, Benjamin Olumuyina stopped after the accident. No charges have been filed, but the investigation is ongoing.

“There’s a crosswalk near where he was hit, but we don’t know if he was in the crosswalk,” Hobbs said. “That’s part of the investigation. We’re interviewing witnesses and checking the area to see if there is any video available.”
