Cobb County police Tuesday were trying to identify a man struck by a car and killed near Mableton before daybreak.

The incident happened shortly before 6:30 a.m. on Veterans Memorial Highway at Queen Mill Road, Cobb police Sgt. Dana Pierce said.

Pierce said the man stepped into the roadway in front of a 2004 Pontiac that witnesses said had the green light at the intersection.

Pierce described the deceased as a white male in his 50s, with a small frame and a goatee. He was wearing a blue Reebok jersey and camouflage pants.

Pierce said investigators do not anticipate charging the driver of the Pontiac.
