Sandy Springs police are searching for a man who attempted to rob a Bank of America on Roswell Road.

The suspect walked into the bank at 8755 Roswell Road around 11:30 a.m. Thursday and presented a large envelope with a robbery note, Sandy Springs Police spokesman Det. Steve Rose said.

He fled before police arrived. Officers were unsure what was inside the envelope and initially treated it as a suspicious package, Rose said.

Police evacuated the bank while hazardous materials crews investigated the envelope and determined it was not a threat, Rose said.

No injuries were reported.

Police are asking the public to help locate the suspect. He is described as a white male in his mid-30s, 5-feet-11 to 6-feet tall, 180-200 pounds with blond hair and a thin beard. He was last seen wearing a white or light blue shirt, jean shorts, sunglasses and a black ball cap.
