A man believed to be driving a stolen vehicle shot himself in the chest while being questioned by Woodstock police Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

Officers stopped the man, whose name was not released, about 12:30 p.m. at Farm Ridge Drive and Canton Highway at the Cherokee-Cobb county line because he was driving a vehicle that had been reported stolen, Brittany Duncan, Woodstock police spokeswoman, told the AJC.

"When the driver was asked to exit the vehicle, he shot himself in the chest," Duncan said.

The man was alert while being treated at the scene and was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Duncan said.

He is expected to be charged with receiving stolen property, police said.
