Hapeville police are looking for two suspects after a man was shot and killed during an attempted robbery.
Channel 2 Action News reported that a man and woman were returning to their home on Dorsey Road around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday when they were approached by two suspects in a vehicle.
The suspects got out of the vehicle — possibly a Honda — and attempted to rob the couple, Hapeville police told Channel 2.
The man was shot by one of suspects while the woman got away unhurt.
Neighbor Tyria Young told the AJC that police said the man had picked his girlfriend up at work and as they were arriving home, “two guys basically jumped them, trying to rob them, and the male in the house told his girlfriend to make a run for it. She took off running and he got shot.”
Young said the man collapsed in her driveway.
“This is just really sad,” she said, “when people just take for granted human life … you feel like if you go out and work for [a living], everybody else should do the same thing … it doesn’t make any sense to me. It’s just nuts. It’s nonsense.”
The dead man’s name has not been released.
