A man was shot overnight by police officers responding to a domestic dispute at a DeKalb County apartment complex.
The incident happened about 10:30 p.m. Thursday at the Bryton Hill apartments on Skyland Drive near Clairmont Road.
DeKalb police spokeswoman Mekka Parish told the AJC that officers were inside the apartment investigating the dispute when a man entered the room with a gun pointed at his own head.
Officers attempted to negotiate with the man, but when he pointed the gun at police, one of the officers dischargd his weapon, striking the man multiple times.
Parish said the man was hospitalized in critical condition late Friday morning. Earlier reports indicating the man had died were later determined to be incorrect.
The incident was the third officer-involved shooting in metro Atlanta in three days.
Wednesday afternoon, Clayton County police officers responding to a burglary in progress on Bonanza Church Road shot and killed 13-year-old Trevion Davis.
A few hours later, Christopher Calhoun, a 38-year-old fugitive wanted by Mississippi authorities, was shot and killed by Atlanta police who tried to arrest him in the parking lot of the Mall West End.
