A man was fatally shot in southeast Atlanta on Friday night, police said.

The incident happened around 7 p.m. on Whatley Street.

Witnesses told authorities that a man walked up to the victim, shot him in the chest, then fled, Atlanta police Lt. Paul Guerrucci told Channel 2 Action News.

The victim, who was in his mid 20s, was transported to a hospital, where he died, Guerrucci said.

Homicide detectives are investigating leads but don't have a motive.
