An early morning shooting Friday at a southwest Atlanta apartment complex left one person dead, police said.

The shooting happened shortly after midnight at the Columbia Plaza apartments on Westview Drive.

Channel 2 Action News reported that the victim, a man in his 40s, was shot in a second-floor apartment, then jumped from the balcony trying to get away from his attacker. He collapsed outside the apartment and died.

Detectives were canvassing the area for witnesses but had no suspects and had not determined a motive for the slaying.

The victim's name has not been released.
