A man’s decision to stop at a south Fulton County gas station for a candy bar around 2 a.m. ended up costing him his life.
Now, his family says the store owner is responsible and should pay for his death.
Taurus Jermaine Freeman was leaving a Chevron in November 2015 when a man with a gun demanded keys to his 2012 Dodge Challenger. A brief struggle ensued before Freeman, 40, was shot several times and his car was stolen.
The car was recovered by police that same month, but there are no suspects for the murder, a Union City Police Department spokesman said Monday.

Freeman's family is suing Shifa Properties, the company that owns the store, for $5 million, according to a lawsuit filed Feb. 13 by John A. Moore of Forrest B. Johnson & Associates.
The suit alleges the assault was foreseeable due to prior attacks at the business. It also claims the story owner failed in his duty to keep the store premises safe for customers, including Freeman.
Carjacking in south Fulton County has drawn particular attention in recent months. The cars of two prominent figures were stolen from gas stations in December: the actress Queen Latifah and retired judge Marvin Arrington, Sr., whose son is a Fulton County commissioner.
Attempts to reach the owner of the Chevron located at 4520 Jonesboro Road were unsuccessful.
Moore did not immediately return a call for comment.
